As manufacturers push towards a predominantly SUV portfolio, sedans are gradually being discontinued. The same can be said about the Passat which will be discontinued after its 2022 iteration. To honor its contribution to the brand, a special limited-edition model will be added to the 2022 Passat lineup. The 2022 Nissan Altima is also a carryover of the previous model year version except for a few changes like the addition of a new Midnight Edition Package for the SR variant, and heated exterior mirrors with LED turn signals for customers opting for the SV Premium package.

The Nissan Altima is far more superior to the Passat in the performance department. Altima’s base engine has a slightly higher power output compared to the Passat. It also gets an additional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 248 horsepower. On the other hand, the Passat fairs exceptionally well when it comes to riding comfort and stability. The Passat’s engine also has a high torque output which helps to propel it quicker during acceleration. Both the sedans have their own advantages. The Altima is the quicker one of the two while the Passat is the smoother alternative.
The Passat excels in interior comfort. The cabin carries a minimalistic and elegant design. Passenger space is courteous in both rows. The base Passat trim gets comfort seats with synthetic leather upholstery along with heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. This is way better compared to the base Altima’s cloth upholstery and manually adjustable driver’s seat.
Coming to the infotainment department, the Passat is equipped with a 6.3-inch touchscreen display and gets Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, and Bluetooth connectivity, to name some of them, as standard. On the other hand, Altima's base trim does not get Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® which works against it. Even though the 2022 Altima gets more trim levels, it does not match the 2022 Passat’s refinement.
